The Minister of the Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development, Mr. HELE Pierre chaired, in the presence of the Deputy Minister Dr. NANA Aboubakar DJALLOH, this Wednesday, June 26, 2024, the celebration of the International Day of Biodiversity at the Mundi hotel complex at the Mundi hotel complex by BIKOK, a suburb of Yaoundé.

Under the theme “contribute to the plan”, this celebration brought together the statutory members of the Standing National Committee on Biodiversity, the National Platform of the Science-Policy Interface on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (PN-SPBES), the officials and executives of MINEPDED, as well as various guests.

Two stages structured the development of this colorful commemorative day: A protocol phase with highlights including the screening of a documentary film presented by Ms. BEYALA Joséphine Epse ELOUNDOU, National Biodiversity Focal Point, the speech of the National Biodiversity Focal Point, the speech by Mr. the Minister and the reading of the message of the Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity by the Representative of the United Nations System. The celebration was an opportunity to communicate on the concerted efforts of national actors to advance the cause of Biodiversity in Cameroon, whose richness and importance were highlighted. It is also a time to advocate for the contribution of all in order to reverse the trend of biodiversity loss in our country, which is caused by several factors, some of which are of antropic origin, in particular with an impact on climate change. Everyone is thus invited to “be part of the plan” to enable Cameroon to achieve its national objectives in relation to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework for the post-2020 period.

The second phase was devoted to the first Session of the recently created Standing Committee on Biodiversity. It made it possible to involve the Associated Sectors in the dynamics of the revision of the NBSAP II in accordance with the Kunming-Montreal Global Framework and SND 30.
